Creative Hand-stitched ‘Scapes’ course -  SIX sessions

Starting on Sunday October 23rd 2016

Sundays from 10 - 4 pm,

£45 per workshop

A series of SIX monthly workshops, each one concentrating on a distinctive theme.

The course is designed to encourage experimentation and the creative use of stitch.

Each session is a stand-alone, hands-on, practical workshop.

However, anyone able to attend all the sessions will experience the use of hand-stitched embroidery to express their ideas along with a variety of techniques such as embellishing, piecing and layering, fraying, appliqué, bonding, colouring and beading where appropriate.

The workshops are aimed at people who already have a knowledge of basic hand stitches – running, buttonhole, chain, French knots and herringbone and are keen to explore creative textile-making.

Participants are asked to bring in photographs, postcards, sketches or magazine pictures of ‘scapes’ that they have had a positive response to and find interesting.

Inspiration can also be found in artists’ work, such as Constable’s and Van Gogh’s skies, Turner’s marine scenes and Hockney’s landscapes. These will be used in the workshops as starting points for the themed projects.

So it is essential that participants bring in their own inspirational materials as each person’s response is highly individualistic.

The course will also include the elements and principles of design and drawing but  please don't panic about this, you do not have to be good at drawing!!

A wide range of fabrics and threads will be available for each session.

The tutor, Liz Thomas, is an experienced teacher, textile artist and is passionate about embroidery.

She has a BA Hons in Textiles/ Fashion, specialising in Embroidery, studying under Constance Howard and Christine Risley.

Print making is fun for any age and ability. By making your own stamps you can choose your own theme,

create as little or many as you like, be creative by making your own stamps and at low cost. You can be resourceful with the things around you! Plus, you can keep using them again and again.
The exciting thing about printing is the reveal! Once you’ve coloured up a design, you’re never totally sure

how it will look and also every print can look different. This depends on how you apply ink, what you print

onto, the colours chosen and how much pressure you add when pushing down onto the print.
Learn all these things and enjoy the art of printmaking.
For a fun day of crafting and experimenting with homemade printing methods, it’s worth joining in!

Creative Painting Workshop

Sunday 27th November

3-hour workshop: 10-1pm or 2-5pm

Cost per session: £50 all materials provided (including large canvas and refreshments)

Open to all; beginners through to artists.

Whether you haven't painted since school, you fancy trying something different and having some much needed 'You' time, or you are an artist that is feeling a bit blocked and needing something to help your creative energy to flow again.......then my workshop could be just what you need!

We can spend so much time in our heads and wanting to 'do it right' and 'get it perfect', and the fear of failure stops us from just doing it, and on a bigger scale, really living. This was me... however nine years ago I begun painting again, but this time in a very different way; the focus being the process not the end result!

I just love painting in this free way, it brings me back to the present moment and I have been so surprised at what appears. This has inspired me to support others to connect, relax and have fun through this amazing creative process.

My 3-hour workshops create the space for you to connect with your creative/free self and nourish your soul. My passionate belief is that painting from the heart, gives you the opportunity to let go and discover the magic that lies within yourself.

Come and join me on a workshop and have some fun!

Spaces are limited to 8 people per workshop and advanced booking is required.

Email me at natashaheartspace@gmail.com to book your place, stating which time you prefer. I will do my best to accommodate.
