Our approach

  • We are passionate about art and creativity and want to pass that passion for creativity on.

  • Gentle but firm, clear boundaries.

  • We have lots of fun but learn at the same time.

  • Definitely not a 'classroom' approach.

  • We don't over simplify what we teach to the children, they are all very bright and hungry to learn and we respond to that but each child works at their own pace and with only 10 children in the group we can do that.

  • Child led sessions but with the artist tutor providing a well organised structured session around their ideas/choice of medium to explore.

  • We are not product orientated but orientated towards exploration of processes and we respond to the children's current interests.

  • Each child is treated with great care and respect.

Our Tutors

Pauline Stanley BA Fine Art  (Hons) RNMS, NNEB

I have a BA in Fine Art, and I am very experienced art, craft and textile workshop leader working with a wide range of ages and disabilities.
I have been working with children for 30 years and work with schools, museums, Durlston County Park, Artsreach, Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth Arts Festival and Artsreach.
I teach as a visiting tutor at Arts University Bournemouth.

I am an Arts and Health Practitioner, passionate about art and creativity and want to pass that passion on.

I have an enhanced DBS, PL insurance, and St Johns First Aid and up to date Safeguarding Training.

Carrie Mason is a practicing visual artist and recent graduate of the Arts University Bournemouth, completing a BA (Hons) Fine Art (1st Class) in 2016 and MA Fine Art (Distinction) in 2017.
Carrie combines systematic mark making with an experimental approach to using materials  in a predominantly drawing-based  practice.

Her process is labour intensive, often beginning with making her own drawing materials, including making charcoal from locally collected wood, making inks and handmade papers; or through repetitive processes with drawings such as Breaking Down, 2016, taking 110 hours of burning to complete. The materials are transformed through these processes into something unrecognisable from its original form, or even as a drawing.

Linda Rowe is an artist/maker at Linda Rowe Glass and has a studio at Fisherton Mill, Salisbury, selling and teaching her work.

She has a NNEB and a background in child care working in varied areas including learning disabilities and running a Day Care.

Linda holds a  Diploma in use of the Arts in a Therapeutic Environment, from a Foundation year in Art Therapy and is passionate about researching, teaching and sharing all aspects of art art as a creative expression.

We now work on an application system so we like to meet your child and complete the application form together before they can start.

This is to ensure we have well balanced, manageable groups and so you get a clear picture of how we work.
We are an art studio and we are artist educators not a school nor school teachers.
We are very happy to work with children who have diverse or additional requirements and ask that you give as much information as you can about your child so we can meet their needs.

  • We aim for term times inline with Bournemouth schools but may have to alter these slightly as sometimes we have other commitments.

  • We have a maximum of 10 children per group as we prefer to work with small groups.

  • This allows us to work in a very conscious way with each child's needs.

  • We ask that you tell us honestly and in full about any disabilities, Aspergers, mental health conditions, behaviour problems, health concerns so we can care for your child and also have well balanced manageable groups

  • We have a space outside and a cafe near the studio where parents can sit, wait and chat. This is good for children who like their parents nearby.

  • You can also leave them with us if you think this is appropriate and the child agrees and we have discussed it and we have parents mobile numbers

  • Please bring a snack and drink for each child as they have a 10 minute break mid session.

Payment  - terms and conditions

£15 a two hour session - discounts for multiple children coming from one family

6, 7  or 8 week terms. Payable in advance please on the first day of term.

We have offered families the possibility of paying weekly  but we have found that families don't want to pay for missed sessions so we can no longer offer this option.

We require 6 weeks notice if your child’s place is no longer wanted as our rent is high and our income low and we need to survive. Thank you.
