10 - 4.30
£90 - small group - only 4 places available
Tutor is Attila Pasek

Imagine an ordinary can, a shoe box or a box of matches.
Imagine taking photographs with them through a tiny hole instead of your high technology camera or phone.
Like a mad scientist, you will try to push the boundaries of analogue chemical photography past their breaking point. This workshop is more about the process of photography than the outcome, and failure is certainly a possibility. But the satisfaction of capturing pictures inside a perversely simple device is more than worth the effort!
During the workshop we will make pinholes and build cameras.
We will talk about photo films/papers, measuring and calculate the right exposure and all the wonderful possibilities with this exciting technique.
Feel free to bring any hollow, not transparent object, what you want to convert to a pinhole camera.

Sunday 3rd May

10 - 4.00

£75 - small group - only 6 people

Tutor is Attila Pasek

The chemigram process is a super-experimental printmaking process.

A chemigram is made by painting with chemicals on photographic paper and lies within the general domain of experimentation in the visual arts.

It requires the use of materials from silver halide-based photography (light-sensitive paper, developer, and fixer), but it is not a photograph. Like the photogram, the chemigram is made without a camera, yet it is created in full light instead of in the darkness of the darkroom.

This six hour workshop will explore how everyday household items such as coffee, lemon, toothpaste, mayonnaise, etc. can be used to create mysterious and surprising images. Expect the unexpected!

No previous photography/darkroom/technical experience necessary. All materials included.

Please bring packed lunch. Drinks and biscuits provided

Once dry you can file or sand the surface to reveal patterns, colour and text within the paper.

You can further embellish the surface by adding interesting patterns, motifs or pieces of colour.

To finish you may like to add a soft feather, small beads or set semi-precious stones into a selected area.  Suitable for all, no previous experience is necessary.

All tools and materials provided but bring pieces of coloured paper/maps if you have something special that you would like to cut out and add.

You may like to bring a design idea for your bird sculpture but often the shape evolves naturally as you work.

Cyanotypes Workshop  cancelled and may run again 2021

10 - 4 ~ one hour for lunch: pleased bring a packed lunch
£75 - small group - just 6 people
Tutor is Attila Pasek

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print.

Engineers used the process well into the 20th century as a simple and low-cost process to produce copies of drawings, referred to as blueprints.

Cyanotype is a simple, quick, inexpensive and one of the oldest historical process.
Objects are placed directly onto light sensitive paper, which is then exposed, forming silhouettes of the objects where they have blocked the light source.
If you want to print a classic picture, that is made by a  camera then you need to bring  a large size of photo negative.
If you don’t have any analogue negative, I will ask for digital photographs in advance by email.  I will make these into a negative prior the workshop, allowing you to create your own photographic cyanotype print for a price of £5 per picture.
Email: attila.pasek@attilapasekphotography.com

Cyanotype, which is sometimes called Sun Printing, is a Victorian era photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print.

This workshop is suggested for people who have already learnt the cyanotype process and want to explore the process more. So we will do some prints with a fairly new version, called wet cyanotype process. The liquid can change the colours and textures of the image and creates more painterly images than traditional blue and white photograms.
In the second half of the workshop we will investigate Prints made on textile, wood, metal, ceramics… We will discuss what materials can be used, how to coat, expose and develop different surfaces.

During the workshop we will print on textile, wood and stone. The completed  pieces can be taken home.
You are welcome to bring along any exposed B&W film (or negative) of your own, whether 35 mm, 120, 5x4 format or bigger. However, if you don’t have any analogue negative, I will ask for digital photographs in advance by email.
