10 - 4.30
£90 - small group - only 4 places available
Tutor is Attila Pasek
30 mins for lunch: pleased bring a packed lunch

Imagine an ordinary can, a shoe box or a box of matches.
Imagine taking photographs with them through a tiny hole instead of your high technology camera or phone.
Like a mad scientist, you will try to push the boundaries of analogue chemical photography past their breaking point.
This workshop is more about the process of photography than the outcome, and failure is certainly a possibility. But the satisfaction of capturing pictures inside a perversely simple device is more than worth the effort!
During the workshop we will make pinholes and build cameras.
We will talk about photo films/papers, measuring and calculate the right exposure and all the wonderful possibilities with this exciting technique.
Feel free to bring any hollow, not transparent object, what you want to convert to a pinhole camera.

Chemigrams

Sunday 3rd May

10 - 4.00

£75 - small group - only 6 people

Tutor is Attila Pasek

30 mins for lunch: pleased bring a packed lunch

The chemigram process is a super-experimental printmaking process.

A chemigram is made by painting with chemicals on photographic paper and lies within the general domain of experimentation in the visual arts.

It requires the use of materials from silver halide-based photography (light-sensitive paper, developer, and fixer), but it is not a photograph. Like the photogram, the chemigram is made without a camera, yet it is created in full light instead of in the darkness of the darkroom.

This six hour workshop will explore how everyday household items such as coffee, lemon, toothpaste, mayonnaise, etc. can be used to create mysterious and surprising images. Expect the unexpected!

No previous photography/darkroom/technical experience necessary.

All materials included.

A lumen print is essentially a solar photogram – a camera-less process involving photographic paper, a subject matter that usually (but not always) consists of an organic material, and of course, the most important element – The Sun (or an artificial UV light source).

One of the simplest picture making process with minimal equipment requirement, but very regarding and teaching about a lot of the basic principles of photography.

Feel free to bring any flat, translucent object (pressed flowers or leaves, feathers, translucent paper with interesting pattern, etc.) to make photograms.

Cyanotypes Workshop
7th June Sunday
10 - 4 ~ one hour for lunch: pleased bring a packed lunch
£75 - small group - just 6 people
Tutor is Attila Pasek
5 hour workshop time.

Cyanotype is a simple, quick, inexpensive and one of the oldest historical process. For this reason, it is one of the first processes tried by many of the people who are now turning to archaic photographic techniques.
Many people are familiar with the photogram technique.
Objects are placed directly onto light sensitive paper, which is then exposed, typically forming silhouettes of the objects where they blocked the light source.
The pictures are coming out in famous Prussian blue prints, but if the picture is toned, there are many options. It can be toned with tea, coffee or tannin after previous bleaching with alkali. Depending on the toning used, it is possible to obtain various shades of grey, black, brown.
However if you want to print a classic picture (made by camera) you need a large size of photo negative for contact printing. You are welcome to bring along any exposed B&W film (or negative) of your own, whether 35 mm, 120, 5x4 format or bigger. You will be able to print from them and can take prints home.
However, if you don’t have any analogue negative, I will ask for digital photographs in advance by email.
I will make these into a negative prior the workshop, allowing you to create your own photographic cyanotype print for a price of £5/pictures.
Email: attila.pasek@attilapasekphotography.com
Feel free to bring any flat, translucent object (pressed flowers or leaves, feathers, devore velvet, lace, doilies, translucent paper with interesting pattern, etc.) to make photograms or bring any fancy, light-coloured paper you would want to experiment with during the cyanotype process.
The morning will be creating images on paper.
The afternoon will be creating images on fabric.
